Resumo

In Brazil,surface irrigation systems are used extensively despite their reduced irrigation efficiency, with surface-irrigated areascovering1.547 Mha, of which 1.129 Mhaare for flooded rice production. This review providesan overview of surface irrigation systems in Brazil, in addition to the perspectives and public policies implicit in granting water supply. Adopting technologies in surface irrigation systems can favor increased efficiency in water use, maximing crop productivity, and consequently, impacting the sustainability of irrigated agriculture positively.
